ISNA Canada Mourns the Victims of Toronto Van Attack

Mississauga, ON, April 23, 2018 - Earlier today, an unspeakably tragic attack on innocent civilians occurred in the heart of our city of Toronto. 10 lives lost, 15 bystanders injured, and over two dozen families traumatized.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by the senseless van rampage in North York. We appreciate and commend the efforts of the first responders and law enforcement personnel," said Dr. Katherine Bullock, the President of Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) - Canada.

What drove this young man, Alek Mennasian, a resident of Richmond Hill, to plough into the two dozen innocent pedestrians? We trust the law enforcement agencies will do their due diligence in investigating the motives behind the horrific incident.

"We know Toronto is resilient. As we begin to make sense of this tragedy, we ask fellow Canadians to join the survivors and the families of the victims of the Toronto van attack in support and solidarity in the days to come," stated Taha Ghayyur, Executive Director, ISNA Canada.

We invoke God to heal the injured and protect us all.

ISNA Canada is a pioneering national Muslim organization serving the needs of Canadian Muslims since 1982.
