Syria's war has dragged on for more than four years, killing more than 250,000 people, many of whom are children. It is now the worst humanitarian disaster since the Second World War, having displaced 12 million people - 8 million forced from their homes within Syria and 4 million now living in horrific conditions outside the country.

In response to this catastrophe Canadians in Support of Refugees in Dire Need (CSRDN) formed in the spring of 2014. CSRDN believes that every life is precious regardless of ethnicity and religion and has been assisting in the arrival of refugees to Canada and their integration into Canadian society.

Now, members of CSRDN and members of the Maple Grove United Church and the Shaarei Beth-El Synagogue in Oakville have united in solidarity with the people of Syria and formed Abraham’s Children Together  (ACT) to jointly sponsor Syrian refugees to Canada.

A fund-raising Celebration of Unity is now planned for all Canadians, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., on October 25, 2015 to be held at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) mosque, 2200 South Sheridan Way , Mississauga. There will also be an information session by CSRDN and Lifeline Syria advising the community on how to sponsor family members and others to Canada.

Come and meet fellow Canadians from all walks of life and share in a day of learning to celebrate what binds us – love and compassion for all people

Enjoy international cuisine, bring your families for fun and games with face painting, clowns, bouncy castles and more.

We will also celebrate Canada's multicultural ideals with a special salute to the life of late Oakville Town Councillor Maqsood (Max ) Khan.
